Giovanni Pighizzini

Professor
Giovanni Pighizzini received a MS degree in Computer Science in 1987 and a PhD in Computer Science in 1993 from the University of Milano. He has been an assistant professor since 1992, an associate professor since 1998, and a full professor since 2001.
From 2003 to 2007 and from 2019 to 2022 he was the head of the Academic Board for studying programs in Computer Science and Technology at the University of Milan.
From December 2022 to September 2026 he was the dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Since October 2026 he is the head of the Department of Computer Science and a member of the Academic Senate of the University of Milan.

His main research interests are formal language and automata theory, descriptional complexity, computational complexity and algorithms.

Since 2020, chair of the Steering Committee of the international conference Developments in Language Theory (DLT).
